Southern Gospel Music

Author: Walk to the Success ,

Southern gospel music is an offshoot of gospel music that is composed to express the same beliefs expressed in Christian music but is distinct in that it has been performed through the years by a quartet. This kind of music has, like other forms of Christian music, been created to give Christians an alternative to mainstream Christian music.

The creation and the performance of these gospel songs also differ according to the culture and social context. It is also performed for many purposes, ranging from aesthetic pleasure and religious purposes. Gospel songs, however, are primarily performed in churches for religious and worship purposes. Contemporary gospel songs have, however, become a product for the marketplace, although this subgenre has not been as secularized as other forms of Christian music have. This style of music is often called quartet music because of its all male, tenor-lead-baritone-bass composition. Unlike contemporary Christian music, southern gospel music is known for being overt in its Christian message.

History

Its music has origins in 1910, with the formation of the first professional quartet for the purpose of selling songbooks for the James D. Vaughan Music Publishing Company. The early quartets performed a cappella while other groups performed with the banjo or the piano.

Other publishing companies spread music with the help of traveling missionaries, and schools. The religious nature of Southern religious music was still dominant in the songs sung by these traveling groups that also widened their repertoire with country gospel, bluegrass and convention music apart from singing traditional gospel songs.

Southern gospel drew most of its energy as it was just starting out from the Holiness movement churches of the South. Groups of Southern gospel singers became popular in the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s with their recordings. These singers include Smith's Sacred Singers, The Speer Family, The Blackwood Family and the Stamps Quartet. There were also quartets that gathered wide popularity through their associations with famous evangelists.

Contemporary Southern Gospel

It has retained its quartet singing style but it has also opened itself up to the kind of singing with solos and duets. It has also retained its country charm, despite the fact that there are numerous radio stations offering 24-hour gospel songs. There are 285 stations in the US that are categorized to focus solely on the gospel music genre of the South and these radio stations also have a nationwide audience. With the advent of the internet, radio stations placed their content online and were able to reach a bigger and more global audience.

Progressive Southern Gospel

This is a new kind of gospel music that arose from the old Southern gospel music. It is characterized by a blend of traditional gospel songs, bluegrass, pop music and contemporary Christian music. This kind of music differs from the classical style of Southern gospel with the edgier quality of its voice, lyrics and melodies. However, they are still patterned after the old Southern gospel style of singing with their evangelical messages and the testimonial aspect of the music.

Yes Album Rock Music CD Review

Author: Walk to the Success ,

Yes released their most recent album entitled Yes Album.

It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce that's exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all, with each song standing tall on it's own.

Yes Album has a pleasantly varied, mix of 9 tracks that are very well written and brilliantly performed songs by these clearly superb musicians. Most of the songs display a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are their own personal experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions of love, and the pain of failed relationships can certainly be heard.

I'm of the opinion that Yes Album is certainly some of this groups best work in a few years. A totally enjoyable CD and an outstanding release. What I call must have music. I give it two thumbs up because it's a collection that even the casual Rock fan can appreciate and enjoy.

While this entire album is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 3 - Starship Trooper: Life Seeker, track 4 - I've Seen All Good People: Your Move / All Good People, and track 9 - Clap.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - Yours Is No Disgrace. This is a great track!

Music Can Be a Hobby

Author: Walk to the Success ,

A hobby is something that you enjoy doing, something that brings relief of the daily grind and allows you to unwind. Many people turn to music as their form of release. Music is among the most popular of all hobbies. There are several different ways to enjoy music as your hobby. Even if you can't play a single note, music is powerful enough to go above and beyond any limitations that you may impose on yourself. Jump in with both feet and discover the different ways you can enjoy the soothing and sometimes exciting facets of music.

It's pretty safe to say that there would be no music if there was nobody to play it. There really are no boundaries when it comes to picking up an instrument and learning to play. Anyone can do it if you have the patience and the willingness to learn. It's a good idea to try more than one type of instrument in order to know what you really prefer and what feels the most natural to you. It's best not to make your decision on something like how cool a certain guitar looks on your favourite rock star. Everyone needs to develop their own musical styling with the instrument that is best for them.

Writing music is one of the most profound ways to dig deep into yourself and see what you have to offer in a musically creative format. Don't expect the first thing you write to be an amazing piece of work. It takes time to build up to it. Starting small is necessary for even the greatest of musicians. Don't feel as if what you write isn't worth sharing with others either. It's common to feel insecure when you develop your own original music but if your passion is in it, let it speak for itself.

Some music fans find that playing an instrument is more than gratifying and they commit to collecting as many as possible. Even if you don't play a particular instrument, having it in part of your collection is still remarkable. Think about how many people you know that have a piano and never play it. Many of us know somebody like that. Something s beautiful as a fine piano should be played but it also makes a gorgeous piece of décor as well as conversational inspiration.

When you discover an artist or musician that you just can't get enough of, it's understandable that you want to collect all of their works. A music collection is a great hobby to have. Not only is listening to music and enjoying it the main focus but the collection itself is something that will continue to grow and thrive throughout the years. It doesn't take long for the avid music collector to acquire hundreds or thousands of records and CDs. It's an investment that never stops giving back.

Music is something we can all relate to, no matter what type it is. It's a universal hobby that brings out the best in all of us.

An MP3 player is different from the other methods of personal stereo where you would normally have to insert a cassette or CD in order to listen to your favorite songs, but the music found on an MP3 player is in digital format. Because they are much smaller than other methods of personal stereos they fit much more easily into a person's pocket. Plus they are able to hold more tunes than either a cassette, mini disk or CD can. But in order to download music to your MP3 player you will need a computer. In this article we will provide some other information on how to download music to my MP3 player so that you can soon be listening to all your favorite tunes without having to swap over cassettes, CD's or mini disks.

Well the most important thing that you will need in order that you can download music to your MP3 player is a PC that is connected to the Internet. However before you start to download any music to your MP3 player you will need to figure out the following.

What file format is it you need in order to download your music? The format you use will depend on the type of MP3 player that you have. For example if you have an Apple iPod then you will need to find files online which are in the AAC format before you start downloading whilst most other MP3 players come either in MP3 or WMA format. So it is important that you check in the user handbook which came with your MP3 player to see what format it is that you need to use.

Luckily when it actually comes to downloading music from the Internet you will find that there are plenty of online sites where you can download music either for free (but be wary of these sites), by paying a monthly or yearly subscription fee or those sites where you will have to pay for each song that you down load.

When you enter one of these sites and find the song that you are interested in they will then either ask you to pay a fee before you start the download procedure. Then once that this payment has been confirmed the download can begin. So just how to download music to my MP3 player is as simple as now just clicking the download button and once you have clicked on the ok to download button the site will then commence to download the song of your choice in to the appropriate file on your computer's hard drive. Once the download has been completed then all you need to do is transfer it over to your MP3 player using a USB port and cable connected between the player and PC. It really is that simple.

There are many ways to learn the guitar. Some prefer a one on one instructor, some like the online methods and others will prefer self teaching. So with all these possibilities, what actually is the best way to learn guitar? Let's look at them and see what we find.

Personal instruction

This method is where you will find a teacher and sit with them, usually twice a week. The instructor will assess your ability and move you along as he/she sees fit. This tends to be a little costly and is the biggest deterrent for people to take up the instrument. The cost is in the area of $20 per hour; this can be one 60 minute session or two 30 minute sessions each week.

Each week, you will learn the curriculum that the teacher uses. As you progress, the lessons get harder, obviously. So what happens if you don't have that technique or lesson perfected by the next week? You guessed it; you go over it again and PAY for it again. Plus you will probably be embarrassed at your stumbling at the beginning. This is the drawback to a personal instructor and is not viewed as the best way to learn guitar by some folks.

Self teaching

With this type of guitar lesson, you would go to the music store and buy a lesson book or song book. Take it home and try to make sense out of it. Problem is that you may get some of the material, but it is inevitable that something isn't going to make sense to you. This is a major stumbling block with self teaching.

Trying to learn from a book or DVD just is not the best way to learn guitar, plainly put. You will need some sort of guidance along the line somewhere. You simply will not get that as a self taught guitarist. Oh, you may learn songs from tab, but will you be able to play by ear or keep up with a band?

Online learning

In my humble opinion, this is absolutely the best way to learn guitar and here's why. First, you are shown the material in print and given the instruction on how it is done. Then you can listen to an audio of the material to actually HEAR how SHOULD sound when played properly. On top of that, you also get a video portion that SHOWS how it is played by an experienced player.

This multimedia approach is extremely effective and worthwhile. Not quite a personal instructor; not quite self taught, either. Actually is a nice combo that has all the benefits of both with added effectiveness.

If you have trouble with a particular lesson, you can watch and listen to it over and over again until you have it right before moving on. The most important part is you don't have he embarrassment of stumbling in front of someone else or paying for the same lesson repeatedly. You pay one price, one time and the rest is in your hands.

The Top 5 Modern Country Singers

Author: Walk to the Success ,

Modern Country Music is often regarded as not country at all, lacking the fundamental principles of traditional. Such are the changing times where Pop meets Country and is regarded as Country. So whether good or bad, who are the top modern Country Singers?

5: Zac Brown Band
Zac Brown Band is an award winning band from Atlanta, Georgia. They have released four albums, the first in 2004, and three singles, with two number ones "Chicken Fried" and "Toes," and a number two "Whatever it is." With a good steady start, they are growing in popularity and slowly becoming recognized as a good Country Music band to rival other new and very popular bands, such as Lady Antebellum.

4: Toby Keith
Toby Keith was born July 8, 1961 and rose to fame when he released his first four albums in the 90's: "Toby Keith," "Boomtown," "Blue Moon" and "Dream Walkin'" and a single "Should've Been a Cowboy," which was one of the most well known Country songs of the 90s. From there he has carried on rising to greatness with 19 Number one Country hits, and now enjoys a top spot among the greatest modern Country singers.

3: Lady Antebellum
Lady Antebellum is not technically a singer, but a group, from Nashville, Tennessee, the group is made of Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood and Hillary Scott. They made their debut in 2007 with "Love Don't Live here," which made it to number 3 on the Country Charts. Their first number 1 came in July 2009 with "I Run to You" with this success behind them and their careers only just beginning we can expect to see more of Lady Antebellum in the charts for many years to come.

2: Brad Paisley
Brad Paisley born October 28th, 1972, released his first album in 1999 with "Who Needs Pictures," all of his albums are certified gold or higher, and has had fourteen number ones. Strictly though Brad Paisley is not pure country, he tends to cross music genres between traditional and and pop or soft rock. Despite this Brad is very popular among modern Fans and is an up and coming star.

1: Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood, born 10th March, 1983, rose to the spotlight after she won the fourth season of American Idol. Don't let that put you off though, she is fast becoming a name to be reckoned with in the C. Music Business, with her debut album "Some hearts," going Ten times platinum and is the fastest selling female album in Country music history! Carrie is bringing it to the forefront of the millennium, reintroducing it to a new generation of people, perhaps it lacks the finesse of old greats like Hank Williams or the true Country Spirit of The Carter Family, but she is doing her bit for Country Music worldwide, and showing that Country can still be popular.

While some of these artists may be seen as more pop or rock than Country by those who like their Country to be traditionally, they are bringing about a new age, for the next generation.

Great 80s Music Hits

Author: Walk to the Success ,

When most people think of the 80s they do not have very fond memories of the music that was on the air at the time. We tend to think of the 70s as the "disco" era and the 60s as the time when rock music developed. The 60s were the days of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, and a host of other great bands that we now think of as the seminal groups in rock history. But the 80s were a different story and do not get the respect that many experts think it should.

80s music hits included great bands like Tears for Fears and their fantastic international number one hit "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and "Shout". Who can forget Simple Minds and "Don't You Forget About Me"? There were plenty of great groups making 80s music hits that just don't get the credit they deserve.

There were modern pop groups too like Pet Shop Boys and their huge 80s music hit "East End Boys and West End Girls" or the digital Depeche Mode with "Strange Love", "Policy of Truth", "Personal Jesus" and "Route 66". Other cult bands with truly great musicians sprang up like The Cure and their hit "Just Like Heaven".

The 80s was also the time of bands such as the Psychedelic Furs and their big 80s music hit "Pretty in Pink" from the movie of the same name. There was also R.E.M. and their song "Losing My Religion" which was in many ways responsible for the proliferation of 90s style Modern Rock.

80s music hits were not limited to Pop music, but were also being created by bonafide rock bands such as Duran Duran with their hit "Rio" and also Bon Jovi with what many consider one of the best of the 80s music hits "Livin' On A Prayer". And who will ever forget Guns n' Roses with "Sweet Child of Mine" which sounds as fresh today as it was back then.

The 80s were also the time of Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna, three giants of the industry who continued to churn out hit after hit for many years. Prince's "Purple Rain" was just the right blend of rock and soul and the big hit from the album was "Let's Go Crazy". U2 began in the 80s and their songs "With or Without You" and "Pride (In the Name of Love) from their giant album The Joshua Tree began a long string of massive 80s music hits for them.

Whimsical music was also the order of the day and groups like Wham and their hit "Careless Whispers" topped the charts. A-Ha, a pop group from Sweden also rocked on with their big hit "Take on Me".

There were some extremely dark songs as well like the moody "Voices Carry" by Til Tuesday, a one hit wonder. The Fixx added their fiery brand of rock with "Red Skies at Night".

Digital Music - Home Studio Music Recording

Author: Walk to the Success ,

Home recording has come a long way in the last few decades. Many people do not realize that much of what they hear on T.V. and in commercials is electric.

Many people still have a negative connotation about how electric music sounds. They think that it must always have a cheesy sound.

Part of this stigma is the confusion over midi. and wav. sound files. Simply put, midi is a signal that is sent to a sound card and triggers a note on a preset instrument sound. Therefore, the sound you get from a midi. sound file will only be as good as the sound card you are using.

Even if you record a midi file with a good sound card, if someone else plays it back using an inferior sound card, the result will be inferior sounds.

Now there are very excellent sound cards available and also software synthesizers. The thing to do is to convert your midi. file to wav. The way to do this is to play your midi file through the desired sound card and record it at the same time, using the recording application that comes with your sound card.

For windows PC, I like the SoundBlaster cards, such as the Sound Blaster 16 PCI 4.1

There are many excellent software programs for recording on windows PCs. One I like in particular is Cakewalks Plasma recording program. You can record multiple tracks, just like a professional studio. Plasma has software synthesizers and will also mix down your midi tracks to wav.

Once you have converted your midi to wav., it is a simple matter to burn it to CD. You will want to use the 44100hz setting in the audio tools for this.

To create midi tracks, you can put the musical notes on a staff with the mouse, if you know music theory, or you can connect an electric keyboard to your PC and play the tracks, setting each track with the sound of the desired instrument.

Of course, these programs also allow you to record a wav. track(s) directly, singing or playing an instrument into a microphone. Recording wav. Requires a lot of memory and a fast PC, but most new PCs are more than up to the task.

If you've ever had a song you wished you could record, you might want to check-out these reasonably priced software programs. It's a whole lot of fun!

Do you want to buy music videos online? There are several ways you could go about getting music videos online. You can choose to get them for free or you can go the safe and legal route and choose to buy your downloads online. This article will show you why is it better to buy music videos online rather than download them for free.

When you start downloading free files and other things online you can run the risk of a few things. First of all, you might be downloading illegal files. Not only are these files illegal, but most of the time they are not a very high quality. I have heard some songs that people download for free online and then play through their mp3 player and it sounds terrible. I would much rather just pay the few dollars or whatever an buy a song of good quality.

The other thing that can happened when downloading from free sites is that you could download spyware or a virus onto your computer. This could end up being very costly seeing that you may have to clear out your hard drive or even possibly buy an entire new computer. I know my friend had so many downloads on his laptop that everytime he turned it on he would get 50 or more pop up ads from spyware.

While getting free stuff is great, it could end up costing you more in the end. And wouldn't you rather have a clear and good sounding song rather than a scratched up track? Next time you decide to buy music videos online, trust your instinct and purchase the video rather than trying to get it free, it will save you a huge headache should you accidentally run into a virus.

The best idea is to buy and download music online as opposed to trying to get it for free somewhere online. You could end up spending a lot more if you accidentally download a virus or spyware to your computer.

Pakistani Pop Music

Author: Walk to the Success ,

Pakistan is blessed with talent and when we talk about Pakistani Music, you can never stop picking up one of the best Pakistani pop song uptill now because there are number of such hit songs nobody can judge the best one in past decades such as "Dil Dil Pakistan" , "Huwa Huwa", "Mehndi ki Raat", "Na Kaho", "Dil Haray", "Ankhain Milanay Walay", "Wakt", "Neeli Neeli Ankhain", "Jaisay Chao Jeo", "Garuj Burus", "No More", "Ankhoun ki Sagar", "Na Tu Aigi", "Addat" left the audience agape and many more. Our artists' are popular all over the world. Many new talented artists in Pakistan are still working hard to bring quality Pakistani music.

We can easily judge Alamgir as the pioneer of music industry who's first big hit was "DEKHA NA THA KABHI HUM NAY YEH SUMMA", and remains the song he is still most identified with, though later songs such as "Yeh Shaam Aur Tera Naam" and "Mein Ne Tumhare Gagar Se Kabhi Pani" continued to add to his composition. Alamgir, it must be said, laid the groundwork that countless others used to break into the music industry. He not only sang well, he was a performer in the true sense of the word. There is no denying Alamgir's contribution to the evolution of the pop music genre in Pakistan.

NAZIA HASSAN was the first one to cross the forbidden Pakistan-India border to sing in an Indian film called "Qurbani" which was "APP JAISA KOI". And later this song became a youth anthem in both India and Pakistan. And next NAZIA, ZOHAIB and BIDDU (an Indian composer) teamed up to release "DISCO DEEWANE" which became the biggest pop selling album till then in Pakistan. The Hasan siblings released one more album, "Boom Boom", in 1984. This second collaboration with Biddu, the undisputed king of Indian filmi disco music, was also a huge success. Their success marked a turning point in the pop history.

And later Vital Sign ventured on to Pakistani television screens with their guitars and a catchy, patriotic song named "Dil Dil Pakistan" in 1986. Their album released in 1987 with gems like "Yeh Shaam" and funky "Goray Rung Ka Zamana".

Then came Jupitars with their evergreen hit songs "Yaroun Yehi Dosti Hai", continued with Hassan Jehangir's "Hawa Hawa" in 1990, "Sanwali Saloni" by Vital Signs in 1991, "Sar Kiye Yeh Pahar" in 1992 by the Strings, Sajjad Ali's "Didi" ripoff "Babia" in 1993, Najam Shiraz's "In Se Nain" in 1995, Junoon's "Saeein" in 1996 or Awaz's "Mr. Fraudiye" in 1997. Junoon came into the race with their World Cup Hit song "Jazaba-e-Junoon Tou Himat na Har". This is only to be expected in a growing industry.

Perhaps the biggest unexpected success of an experimental song, however, was Sajjad Ali's street-wise 1995 hit "Chief Saab". Full of Karachi slang and tough imagery, "Chief Saab", perhaps more than anything else signified the coming age of pop music. It showed that one did not necessarily have to remain within pre-determined saccharine-sweet boundaries to be popular, and that people liked hearing of issues other than puppy love. Partly, as a result of this expansion of the pop market, established musicians from non-pop genres such as qawwali maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan were also drawn towards experimenting within it. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan gave numerous hit one after another and he gave the music for Hollywood movies and as well as for many Bollywood movies too.

The pop band that most successfully seized upon this idea was, of course, Junoon, which used its success with the haunting "Saeein" to recast itself as a completely different sort of band. Here we saw pop again intersecting with folk and vice versa.

In 1994, FM radio brought about another mini-revolution in Pakistani music. From Landhi in Karachi to Krishan Nagar in Lahore, names like female vocalist Hadiqa Kiyani and young Shehzad Roy suddenly became household names. Even iconoclastic recluse virtuosos like guitarist Amir Zaki (whose almost purely instrumental album "Signature" did well in the market) were receiving the kind of airplay the big bands of the '80s could only have dreamed of.

Pop industry had big turnaround when private channels came into the scene, Like IM which became the medium to introduce young talents in the pop industry names like Fuzon, Aaroh, noori, Aks, Ahmad Jehanzaib, Mizraab, Karavan, Ali Zafar, Jal which not only rock the Pakistani pop music but also made their names worldwide. The new arrivals made their presence felt through remarkable individual songs, even though full albums for now seemed beyond most new acts. Ahmad Jehanzaib's Ek Bar Kaho, Fuzon's Ankhon Ke Saagar and Schehzad Mughal's Bas Yunheen were each excellent. The first two were carried by soulful, ardent vocals and the last shone through affecting lyrics. Hot on their heels, honourable mentions must also go to Aks stunningly understated Neela Aasman, noori's jangle-pop perfection Tum Hans Diyae, Junoon's excellent Garaj Baras, Sajjad Ali with Teri Yaad, Aamir Zaki's insightful and incisive People Are People, EP's piledriving Hum Ko Aazma, Najam's infinitely catchy !

Jaisay Chaho Jiyo and Aao Wahan Chalain, Ali Zafar's startling Chanoo ki Ankh, Jal's splendid addat and yes even Ali Haider's insipid but still memorably melodic Chandi Ratain. Abrar's Preeto was the novelty hit of the year. The Pepsi Battle of the Bands did a great job in throwing up a wealth of talent. EP, Aaroh, Brain Massala, Messiah, Schahzad Hameed and others all have Pepsi to thank. The Pepsi Battle of the Bands got all these fledgling bands great exposure.

Recently, a team of talented Pakistani musicians and artists took the long road to Mumbai, via Dubai, possibly to make history, for this was the first time in recent memory that Pakistanis had gone to India to create the background score for a Bollywood film. The film in question is Pooja Bhatt's Paap, and former Vital Sign Shehzad 'Shahi' Hasan, cinematographer Faisal Rafi, singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and studio session player and keyboardist Faiz Ali Naqvi, were the foursome representing the world of Pakistani music in India.

Strings enjoyed considerable success with Dhaani. Probably the most hyped album of the year, with lead single Chaaye Chaaye being the standout favourite. String gave the soundtrack for Spiderman 2 which was a remarkable effort.

Junaid Jamshed's Dil Ki Baat was understated but assured and notwithstanding JJ's quite public and tortured ruminations over religion and music, the album showed that JJ is still competent at middle of the road pop and that Shoaib Mansoor still has the magic touch. Shahzad Roy's Rab Jane was hobbled by his illness and yet catches the fire while Karavan's Gardish seems to have suddenly picked up and was sold like hot-cakes. Schahzad Mughal's Jhoom Lay was one of the most pleasant of surprises of the year.

So this proves that our music industry has dared to move forward with hope rather than skepticism.

Bob Marley Biography and Top 10 Songs

Author: Walk to the Success ,

Bob Marley has been one of my favourite artists for a long time. I probably own more Bob Marley CD's than any other band or artist with the exception of Wu-Tang. My friends mum D, is partly responsible for my listening to Bob over the years because when I was little I used to like the song Jammin' and used to play the 45 single I had of it all the time and I had got the single off her. I would say I have a Bob CD in my stereo 90% of the time (it can have 3 in at a time). Bob not only made good music but also the messages that the lyrics were about were of peace and freedom.

Robert "Bob" Nesta Marley was born in Jamaica on February 6th 1945 and is the most successful of any Reggae artist ever. The album Legend has sold over 12 million copies worldwide. When Bob was a child he lived in the slums of Kingston's Trench town and had a reputation for "self-defense" which earned him the title "Tuff Gong" which he and the Wailers used to create their own record label in 1970.

Bob and some of his friends (Bunny Livingston, Junior Braithwaite, Peter McIntosh, Beverley Kelso and Cherry Smith formed the Wailers in 1963 but by 1966 there was only Bob, Bunny and Peter left. The Wailers released their first album (Catch A Fire) in 1973 to massive success after their signing to JAD Records in London, England. Concrete Jungle being the most successful song from the album. Soon to follow was the release of Burnin' which had some of the Wailers most popular songs I Shot The Sheriff, Get Up, Stand Up and Small Axe. Eric Clapton also had huge success with a cover of I Shot the Sheriff which helped to elevate Bob into the public eye.

In 1974 the Wailers broke up, each to pursue their own solo careers but Bob still continued to record as "Bob Marley & The Wailers" with his new backing band which consisted of Carlton and Aston Barrett, Junior Marvin, Tyrone Downie, Al Anderson and Earl Lindo. Backing vocalists were Rita Marley (Bob's wife), Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt.

The new line-up had their first international hit with No Woman, No Cry which was on the Natty Dread album released in 1975 alongside other hits, Lively Up Yourself and Rebel Music. The album Rastaman Vibration was released in 1976 in the US and was at the top of the Billboard charts for 4 weeks.

Two days before Bob Marley was going to embark on his Smile Jamaica tour Bob, Rita and their manager were injured during a shootout inside Bob's home. The attack was reported as being politically motivated as many people felt the tour was a support rally. Even though all concerned received serious injuries they all made full recoveries and the tour went on as planned with an injured Bob performing on stage.

By the end of 1976 Bob Marley left Jamaica and moved to London, England where he recorded two albums (Exodus, which had the hits: Exodus, Three Little Birds, Jammin', One Love and waiting In Vain, and Kaya which boasted: Easy Skanking, Kaya, Is This Love, Satisfy My Soul and Sun Is Shining among its singles). While in London Bob was arrested for possession of cannabis.

In 1978 Bob returned to home for the One Love Peace Concert to help with the peace effort and to help calm the warring parties in Jamaica. At Bob's request both political leaders (Manley and Seaga) joined him on stage and shook hands. Babylon By Bus was released also in 1978 which was a live double album, the song Jammin captures the crowds wild and frenzied intensity to Bob's performance.

Survival which was released in 1979 was a political statement about the suffering of the African population. The album contained some controversial songs such as Africa Unite, Wake Up And Live and Zimbabwe. Bob was also invited to perform at Zimbabwe's Independence Day on April 17th.

Uprising which was released in 1980 was to be Bob's final studio album and is one of his most religious albums. The album contained Could You Be Loved, Forever Loving Jah and Redemption Song (his famous lyrics being: Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds...).

Bob died on May 11th 1981 from cancer which had started in his toe (due to a soccer accident) in 1977. Bob refused to have his foot amputated because of his Rastafarian beliefs which say that the body must remain whole. Over time the cancer had metastasized into Bob's stomach, liver, lungs and brain.

Confrontation was released after Bob's death and contained the unreleased song Buffalo Soldier and songs previously only available in Jamaica (Jump Nyabinghi and Rastaman Live Up).

My Top 10 Bob Marley Songs are:

01. Lively Up Yourself
02. Small Axe
03. Trench Town Rock
04. Duppy Conqueror
05. Could You Be Loved
06. Jammin'
07. One Love
08. Redemption Song
09. Waiting In Vain
10. Buffalo Soldier

Running Without Music

Author: Walk to the Success ,

To listen to music or not listen to music can be a contentious element amongst runners. Many like to listen to music as a "distracting element" to enable a runner to zone out and "be in their own world" during a run, whereas those who do not listen to music like to "take it all in". Here, the topic will deal with those not listening to music.

For many runners, running is an event in which one wants to be cognizant of his or her surroundings. Not only can one navigate around traffic more if one can hear vehicles coming, but one can also hear the peculiarities of a run. Undoubtedly, if one runs enough, one will hear various comments directed towards them. Some are run, some are random, and some are motivating. Quite a few times I have received motivational comments from people while out on a run. I would not receive those if I wore my MP3 player for the run. A little thing like that can go a long way as someone else wants to urge you forward. On the other hand, if you happen to run under a train while one is rumbling along, you will meet a very loud, violent, and powerful force meeting your eardrums. But, it adds something to your run and distracts you for the moment (plus it gives you more motivation to pick up the pace temporarily).

From wear the ambivalence comes as to whether or not to listen to music, is the "downtime" that comes with listening to music. When listening to music, you may have your absolute favorite song playing. But then what? The next song surely will not compete with your favorite song and your excitement is gone. That is from where the ambivalence comes. A few people do not listen to music because of ups and downs that comes from listening to a variety of songs. When the music is off, ostensibly the problem does not exist.

If you listen to music while running, perhaps you want to give a music-less run a try. Although too many people who run without an MP3 playing may be snooty, running without music opens up a new realm to your runs. The little things one picks up during a run makes it that much more enjoyable.

The Best Blues Songs Ever

Author: Walk to the Success ,

It is entirely a matter of taste as to which are the best Blues songs. However it is possible to speculate as to the most influential songs.

It can be argued that Blues music bought about a greater awareness of the plight of African Americans, as new audiences became interested in its origins and originators.

I clearly remember as an adoring fan of Muddy Waters; Howlin Wolf and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, feeling outrage at the early 60's news reports that a whole people were subjected to such terrible discrimination. The anti establishment feelings so typical of my generation, and empathy with subjugated Black Americans, would manifest itself in the aggressive British interpretation of their Blues music.

The adoption of Blues music by young British musicians, and their successful introduction of that music to white America, inspired a whole generation of white American musicians to rediscover the music and popularize it. This brought recognition to the Black musicians that had created it.

It is the ten songs that had the greatest influence on the "discovery" of Blues that I am presenting here.

Blues music was introduced into Britain after the war. Records came in through the sea ports, and well informed successful Jazz band leaders financed visiting Black artists to visit and play on their shows. Inevitably, their performance influenced the young British musicians who, were looking for something different from the pre war dance band scene.

Smokestack Lightening

Written and recorded by Howling Wolf.

Smokestack Lightening is based on a driving riff and has no chord changes. Released in Britain in 1964 by Pye Records, it reached the Top 50. In 1999, the song was given a Grammy Hall of Fame Award

Boom Boom

Written and recorded by John Lee Hooker, the first American blues artist to do a club tour of Britain. Boom Boom was released as a single in 1961.
Boom Boom is a classic example of Hookers unique timing and chord structure.

The Animals recorded "Boom Boom" for their 1964 UK debut album "The Animals". Their rendition generally follows John Lee Hooker's version, except it conforms to a 12 bar sequence.

Worried Life Blues

The first song written and recorded by Maceo Merriweather in 1941

Inspired by "Someday Baby Blues," recorded by Sleepy John Estes in 1935, however "Worried Life Blues" has gone on to become a Blues "standard" and has reputedly been covered by more artists than any other blues song.

I Got My Mojo Working

Written by Preston Foster and popularized by Muddy Waters. Possibly the most influential of the Blues artists to visit the UK. Covers of this were made by many artists but of special importance were Alexis Korner, a pioneer and possibly the first British Blues band with Blues Incorporated, & Manfred Mann, a highly successful commercial band. Both versions were released in 1964, in itself a testament to the impact of Waters original.

Baby Please Don't Go

By Big Joe Williams, and covered by "Them" becoming the first "hit" record by Van Morrison in 1964. It became the weekly signature tune for the hugely influential television show "Ready Steady Go". The "B" side of the single featured the now-legendary "Gloria". It became a top ten hit in the UK, and launched "Them" and Van Morrisson to world fame.

Hoochie Coochie Man

Written by Willie Dixon and recorded by Muddy Waters in 1957 but covered by almost every blues artist since! The verse and intro are played over "stops" that were to become a feature of many blues recordings. The first cover version was released in 1962 by Alexis Korner on his album "R&B from the Marquee"

Crossroads Blues

Written and recorded by Robert Johnson in 1937 and largely unnoticed until Cream released their version in 1968. The song ranked #10 in the worlds greatest solo's, contributed greatly to the world wide fame of the band and to Eric Clapton in particular.

This success bought Robert Johnson's small but remarkable catalogue of songs to the attention of the music world and has earn't him the acclaim he so richly deserves.

Sweet home Chicago

Robert Johnson 1937. This song has become the Blues "anthem".

The list of artists who have covered the song is immense, including Magic Sam, Buddy Guy, Freddie King, Status Quo, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Blues Band, and the 1980 Blues Brothers movie.

Everybody Needs Somebody to Love

Written and recorded by Solomon Burke in 1964, For many years it was the opener for the Rolling Stones live shows. They released a live version of the song on their 1965 E.P. "Got Live if you want it". The Rolling Stones were to become the most successful Rock band of all time, and they have been fundamental to the wider awareness and appreciation of the early Blues artists. They took there name from a Muddy Waters song "Rolling Stone". The songs riff was "borrowed" for the first "Small Faces" hit single "What You Gonna Do About It" also in 1965. The successful "soul" artist, Wilson Pickett covered the song and it entered the US charts in 1967. This song also features in the 1980 "Blues Brothers movie" The song, as are several of those mentioned, is ranked on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Hound Dog

A twelve-bar blues written by Jerry Leiber and originally recorded by Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton in 1952. In 1965 she toured Europe as a part of the American Folk and Blues festival that had become an annual event and had become so influential to the emergence of British Blues. The 1956 remake by Elvis was his second #1 hit and is possibly the first blues song to become a #1 hit record.

Are you often amazed how professional disc jocks spin their disks and produce sounds with beats that makes the club people hit the dance floor and groove to their sounds? Well, with a knack for creating professional-sounding beats and a computer, you can become a DJ and make your own techno music without using expensive software programs or needing a band.

Basically, there are two forms of techno music: mash-ups and bootlegs. Mash-up is mixing up two different tracks and adding other music elements into a one single track. Bootlegs are an unauthorized recording of an artist's performance and adding sound enhancements and doing some sound engineering. You can take hip hop songs and mix with club music. You can simply make your own techno music by using beat making software. You can explore various sound mixes and save each of it into different audio files. And if it happens, you might create a techno beat that will be a hit, and you can sell it for tons and tons of dollars.

Your road to become a successful professional techno music creator has now become simpler. If you are a beginner and quite unsure where to begin to make your own techno music, you can purchase inexpensive techno music software and try it for yourself. You can analyze the music you have created with the software and then create twists to make the music better.

The problem is finding the best software to make techno music. There are many out there and I have tried most of them.

Many people are searching the internet daily to try and find a good reliable place to download ipod music without getting a virus. As easy of a task as it might seem, its actually a difficult thing to do these days. There is a certain sub-culture on the internet whose main purpose is to infect as many computers as humanly possible with some sort of malicious code or another. I will give you a complete list of sites that are clean as a whistly for ipod download at the end of this article.

The main rule that I follow is, if it sounds too good to be true...then it probably is. There are tons of sites online that will promise that you can download any type of ipod media that you want. The fact of the matter is most of these sites are simply trying to get you to join their mailing list. Once you opt into their list they are able to send you every useless offer then can find to try to sell you. The other thing is when you go to a site that says they have millions of files for your ipod that can be downloaded many of the files if not all of them are infected with some type of virus. So, what should the warning signs be or a site that could be potentially harmful when trying to load your pod with all of the latest music, videos, and other types of media?

1. If it is a site that says that they offer torrents, stay far away from it. These types of sites are notorious for having files that are infected with virii, spyware, as well as many forms of trojan horses.

2. If you have to download THEIR software to download music to your ipod its probably no good. Why would you download a site that you know nothing abouts software? Once you download their software often they are able to upload any type of code that they want to your pc. I can hear many of you now..."but, I have an anti-virus scanner." The people that use these virii are not idiots, there are ways that they can pack files that will bypass any type of anti-virus on the market.

3. If the site feels like it was just "thrown together" chances are...it was. Many sites exist on the internet for the sole purpose of making people think they can get free ipod downlaods however, very few actually deliver what they promise.

From the time I took my ipod out of the package I have been trying to find the best place to load my ipod with the most music and videos that I could. I did find a couple of really good sources that actually delivered what they promised. Unfortunately, along the way i did get a couple of virii and a ton of spyware. If you keep the three points that I listed above in mind you should be fairly immune to making the same mistakes that I did when trying to download ipod music.

Prediction: 3 Top Country Love Songs of 2011

Author: Walk to the Success ,

They say no one can accurately predict the future, but I thought I'd take my shot at immortality by predicting the top country love songs of 2011. Ok, maybe that's a little melodramatic, but here are my predictions just the same:

No. 3 - "Don't You Want to Stay" by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson

This duo teamed up at the 2010 CMA's to earn a standing ovation. This moving love song asks "Don't you wanna hold each other tight - don't you wanna fall asleep with me tonight?" You won't want to let the tender moment come to an end as Kelly sings "I don't want to just make love, I want to make love last."

No. 2 - "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" by Thompson Square

Husband and wife duo Kiefer and Shawna Thompson come together to tell the story of new love. Country fans and romantics alike will fall for this tale of two shy teens which is a cute and romantic example of the type of song a new artist needs to break through the envelope. A beautiful song and an eye-catching duo.

No. 1 - "Who are You When I'm Not Looking" by Blake Shelton

Blake hit the sweet spot with what is one of his sexiest love songs yet. "Who are You" looks at love from the other side, showing that deep desire to truly know and understand your partner and her most intimate secrets. Blake's honey-sweet voice and powerful vocals make this a sure-fire hit.

Exactly what is the best Zumba music list? In this article, we will discuss some of the exciting music that's used in this Latin dance workout.

Now you may think it's funny that a guy would be writing about a Latin dance workout right? Well if it wasn't for my girlfriend, I wouldn't have known about it at all. You see she has always been involved in ballroom dancing so the transition for her from ballroom to Beto Perez's style of workout and dancing was easy and natural. Not so easy for me.

Having said that for a while now she has been trying to drag me out of the house to go dancing. Of course, like most guys I have two left feet. Or at least I feel that way. So one day she tricked me. She said that we're going to go to the gym and take this new cardio workout.

Well little did I know that it was a dance workout until I heard some of the songs that they were using on the Zumba music list. And all of a sudden my two left feet were gone and my hips and feet began to move.

Some of the best music for this aerobic class is of course many of the favorite Latin beats such as salsa, merengue, bachata and most recently it even includes hip-hop and other pop music.

Basically any music that gets your body, booty, and feet moving works well.

Here's a list of some of the most popular songs and artists used on many of the top instructors Zumba music list:

* Adam Lambert - "If I Had You"

* Madonna - "Revolver"

* Flo Rida - "Can't Handle Me"

* Lady Gaga - "Telephone, Just Dance, Paparazzi, Poker Face"

* Pitt Bull - "Maldito Alcohol"

* Shakira - " Loca, Waca Waca"

* Zumba - "Party Nation CD"

There are many others songs that are popular however; these are the favorites of many of the students and instructors.

If you workout at home or you take a class you may want to print out this Zumba music list and try them out.

We loved them all. Several "One Hit Wonders" had very successful songs throughout the '60s. Hey, how could you not shed a tear every time you hear, "Who Put the Bomp in the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp, Bomp, Bomp?" Maybe even two or three tears, huh?

Well, as the Baby Boomer Music King, I have my own very valuable Top Ten list of One Hit Wonders. Remember these?

10. "In the Year 2525″ (1969) by Zager and Evans - These two University of Nebraska students hit #1 in the summer of 1969 and stayed there for six weeks. Over time this single has sold over 10 million copies. The two remain friends to this day. Denny Zager still lives in Lincoln where he builds custom guitars.

9. "Do You Love Me" (1962) by The Contours - Four young men from Detroit got their start in 1959 and did not chart with their first two releases. But they hit it big in 1962 when "Do You love Me" went all the way to #2. The group played for several more years but never hit star status as members came and went like a revolving door.

8. "Rhythm of the Rain" (1963) by the Cascades - All four band members served on the USS Ticonderoga while in the Navy. After leaving the Navy the four formed a group and began creating songs with an emphasis on voice harmony. Two releases did nothing, but then came "Rhythm of the Rain" which rose to #3 in early 1963. * (Make sure you watch the Cascades do an updated version of "Rhythm of the Rain" from a few years ago. It sounds better than the original.)

7. "Who Put the Bomp" (1961) by Barry Mann - Barry's song peaked at #7 and stayed on the charts for twelve weeks.

6. "Everyone's Gone to the Moon" (1965) by Jonathan King - He was a singer songwriter and a Cambridge University undergraduate in 1965 when he released his one hit wonder. It was a world wide hit that sold over 4 million copies. King is still in the music business after writing several songs for other entertainers for years.

There were many others that did well during the 60's. One Hit Wonders carved out their share of music history and often climbed to #1 on the Billboard listings.

"Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey" by Steam went #1 as did "Telstar" by the Tornadoes. There are several great songs that I wanted to add to this Top Ten but that would have made the list a Top Twenty.

So, here are the Top Five One Hit Wonders from the 60's.

5. "Liar Liar" (1965) by The Castaways - This rock group originated in the Minneapolis-St Paul area and released "Liar Liar" in 1965. The song hit #12 and was eventually featured in the movie "Good Morning Vietnam." The group is still playing with one of the original members.

4. "In-a-Godda-Da-Vita" (1968) by Iron Butterfly - This song was actually recorded on the first take which is almost hard to believe. The original 17 minute version has a great extended drum solo. The song developed a cult following and sold several million copies.

3. "For What Its Worth" (1967) by Buffalo Springfield - Steven Stills and Neil Young became big stars with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (CSNY) but they were one hit wonders as part of Buffalo Springfield.

2. "Hey! Baby" (1962) by Bruce Channel - Although recorded in 1960, "Hey! Baby" didn't become a hit until 1962 when it shot all the way to #1. Bruce Channel is still in the music business to this day even though he only hit it big time with one song. "Hey! Baby" has had a rebirth of sorts as a favorite among college students throughout the country.

1. I have a tie for the top spot... "Hippy Hippy Shakes" by the Swinging Blue Jeans (featured in the movie "Cocktail"), and "San Francisco" by Scott McKenzie. Listen to both songs and tell me which one should sit by itself at the top.

You can find music videos on all of the songs on this list by simply searching Google. I suggest you watch each one and let these videos take you back to our time... the 60's.

The sales of most weak-performing restaurants can be traced to the fact that there is nothing unique about the restaurant.

In this bad economy a restaurant has to be unique to successful. Live music can make almost any dining experience more enjoyable and it will bring in a crowd, but how can a small restaurant afford to have live music?

People are still eating out and many restaurants I visit have a waiting line -- even in the middle of the week. These restaurants have a waiting line because they are delivering an enjoyable dining experience and they are unique in some way.

If your restaurant is not unique, consider making it unique by adding live music

Many people are choosing to dine where they can enjoy live music. Of course, live music costs money, but musicians are hurting too and many very good musicians are now willing to play for a lot less they used to. Also, young musicians are a great source of good musical talent.

Be creative and find innovative ways to have live music in your restaurant. The conventional technique of paying good money for a three to five member band to play is probably  not the way to go in this tight economy.

Here are three creative ways successful restaurants are getting great live music for little to no cost:

One restaurant I visit a lot has a 13 year old girl playing the violin. She's good and she really draws in a crowd -- the cost is very low.
Another restaurant lets a local music school have some of their best students play one or two nights a week. The music is good, the cost is zero and all of the relatives of the young musician come to eat and hear little Johnny or Sally play.
Another restaurant has jam sessions most nights and they don't have to pay the musicians anything (except for furnishing them a pitcher or two of beer). They have a different type of music every night -- Sunday nights is jazz, Friday nights is country, etc. They have more musicians wanting to play (for free) than they have room for.

In other words, be creative and innovate, but do whatever it takes to give your restaurant an unique advantage and adding live music may be just what your restaurant needs.

Peter Drucker, who was the world's greatest expert on management, said that...

Innovation is the only real and lasting competitive advantage any business owner can ever have.

Right now, live music is one of the most innovative and under-used techniques for making a restaurant unique.

Bottom line: There's money to be made in the restaurant business in this bad economy and as an independent restaurant manager, you are in a better position than chain restaurant managers to take advantage of the situation because you can make decisions fast and change with the times.

One thing is for sure, you may not be able to make money in the restaurant business if you keep doing what you have always been doing -- but I think you already know that.

Now is the time to go make things happen and live music may be just what your restaurant needs.

If you already have music files on your PC, you can use it. Another way is if you have a collection of CDs, you can download it to your computer and later to your iPod. Or you can download from the internet, there are music stores on the internet offering music with per download fees and there are also membership sites that offers one time payment for lifetime unlimited music download.

When all your favorite music are already downloaded to iTunes on your PC, the next thing to do is transfer your iTunes library to your iPod. You can do this by connecting your iPod to your PC using a USB cable. Once your PC detected your iPod, you can start to drag and load music to your iPod.

The Best Joe Walsh Album

Author: Walk to the Success ,

Joe Walsh's magical music career has spanned well over four and a half decades. Between his stints with the James Gang and the Eagles, Walsh hit a productive and artistic peak in the early 70's with the release of: "Barnstorm" (1972), "The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get" (1973) and "So What" (1974). "So What," the best Joe Walsh album, is the crowning gem of this tremendous trio.

Composition, performance, and production are the three primary elements that separate "So What" from "Barnstorm" and "The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get."

Seven of the nine compositions on this album are some of Joe's best work. While "Barnstorm" and "The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get" contain some great tracks, the sum of the songs on these two albums don't hold up as well. "Welcome to the Club," has some of Joe's best guitar chord work coupled with some of his better lyrics. Great drum work dominates on this track as well. "County Fair'" glides the listener through a sonically enchanted journey, highlighted by Joe's reverse recorded guitar solo. "Falling Down" features vocal arrangements that remind me of Brian Wilson's best work.

All of these great tracks are supported by superior performances by the assembled musicians along with Joe Walsh unique guitar work. In addition, "So What" contains fantastic backing vocals by Randy Meisner, Don Henley and Glenn Frey of The Eagles, along with J.D. Souther and Dan Fogelberg. Their work alone sets "So What apart from other Joe Walsh efforts.

This is by far the best produced Joe Walsh album. Producers: Joe Walsh, John Stronach, Bill Szymczyk and Engineers: Al Blazk, John Stronach, Bill Szymczyk, crafted a record that is cleanly mixed with a distinct separation and definition of sounds while incorporating innovative techniques such as Joe's reverse recorded guitar solo on "County Fair." The arrangements and use of synthesizers and strings are complex, but never give the listener the idea that the music is over-producer or that the producers are "reaching" for something that isn't there. Concurrently, Joe Walsh's voice never sounded better than it does on these tracks.

Most importantly, there is also a greater depth of emotion on "So What," exemplified by "Help Me Through the Night" and "Song for Emma." Emma was Joe Walsh's four-year old daughter. She was tragically killed in a traffic accident by a drunk driver while her mother was driving her to preschool. Joe dealt with this tragedy by composing a very moving and spiritual ballad that in very few words captured the beauty, uncertainty and mystery of life.

If you don't have "So What" in your CD or record collection, you are missing an album that stands well, the test of time.

French horns make use of either rotary valves or pistons to change pitches and to produce higher-octave sounds. While it looks like your typical wind instrument, it is actually available in different kinds and you can play them depending on what type of music you fancy.

Pick your French horn

Among the types you can choose from include the single, Vienna, double, marching, and triple French horns. The single French horn has 3 to 4 rotary valves on its standard cone-shaped bore. You may find it difficult to play them for higher ranges but they are commonly used for orchestral performances.

If you want a French horn that produces opulent legato sounds, then play the Vienna French horn since it has an extended bell flare. It also makes use of a Pumpenvalve instead of the usual rotary valves or traditional pistons. The keys can be changed using the crook system like the Natural French horn.

If you want 2 horns in one frame, play the double French horn. It has the F and the B-flat horns with a 4th valve that is thumb-operated that allows you to change from a bright B-flat sound to the warmer F. However, if you want a French horn with additional F or E flat alto keys, then the triple is for you, or a marching French horn if you want a B flat alto pitch. The Marching French horn is also lighter so they can be played in formation marches, compared to the triple French horn that is heavier with an awkward shape.

However, whatever type of French horn you're planning to play, make sure it has a shiny lacquer finish to protect it from corrosion and rust. Aside from that, buy a thermoplastic case for extra protection.

Luau Music

Author: Walk to the Success ,

Music is essential to a successful Luau. It will help get everyone in the mood to party, dance and enjoy themselves.

Some of the most popular Luau music can be found in the album Drew's Famous Luau Party Music with songs such as such as Surfin' USA, Don't Worry Be Happy, Hawaii Five-0 Theme Song, Blue Hawaii and more. Drew's Famous Island Party Jams with various artists is also a great bet for your party. You should also have the traditional Don Ho Hawaiian Favorites, with songs such as Tiny bubbles and Pearly Shells.

For something interestingly different, try music by Israel 'IZ' Kamakawiwo 'ole. Some other great classic albums for your party could be Blue Hawaii by Elvis, Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Masters, Best of Hawaii, by various artists, Hawaii's Greatest Hits by New Hawaiian Band, I am Hawaii by Hawaiian Escape, Taboo music of Hawaii by Arthur Lyman, Little Brown Girl, Hits of Hawaii and Cazimeros Best (all three of their albums). It should be mentioned that the Hawaiian slack key guitar is the sound most often associated with Hawaii and luaus. It is that dreamy sort of wandering melodious string instrument you might have heard in relation to Hawaii before. You might consider actually hiring a live instrumentalist for your luau - perhaps even a slack key guitarist. Now that would most certainly be the icing on the cake!

These tunes will all bring the authentic Hawaiian atmosphere to your Luau feast, which your guests will remember for years to come!

There are many kinds and forms of soothing music. One general way though to divide compositions designed to relax is to group them according to instrumental tunes and those with vocals. Is it always a better option to listen to purely instrumental selections when you want to relax?

In a lot of cases, what is considered relaxing is based entirely on subjective preferences. This is why some folks listen to slightly upbeat pop songs and still get a general feeling of relaxation. This may also apply to you but it's worth noting that there are reasons why instrumental tunes are better options.

One reason why tracks without vocals are ideal is because they heighten the subjective experience. Those that do have lyrics tend to control the experience based on the themes that they pursue. In other words, listeners' feelings, emotions and thoughts are generally dictated by whatever the vocalist says.

There may be no real problem if the lyrics of songs that have the potential to fall under the category of relaxing soothing music carry appropriately calming words. In a lot of cases though, there are songs that carry traditionally slow beats that may be calming but have lyrics that may generate the opposite effect in individuals. Instead of feeling calm, an individual may end up feeling overly melodramatic or even depressed.

There are more reasons to choose instrumental sounds for relaxation. One more good reason is the natural ability of certain instruments to evoke relaxation. The piano, flute or harp for instance, when played following a slow beat piece, automatically generates smooth, calming tunes that almost mimic what nature produces. You would probably not be able to expect the same outcome from an electric guitar even if it is played to accompany slow pop tunes.

The natural calming effects produced by the right instruments also give listeners the chance to visualize better. Listening to instrumental tunes in a cool, quiet environment can help you imagine appropriately calming situations or environments. While listening to gentle piano pieces for example, you can envision yourself lounging under a tree, sitting beside a bubbling brook or being in whatever place you find comforting. Compositions that have lyrics obviously do not give listeners the same opportunity because of how words can limit the imagination.

In modern soothing music, there is no doubt that words can play important roles. In a lot of cases though, you would always prefer to have a completely subjective experience when you want to relax. If you want your imagination to work to your advantage during your chill out moments, you had best settle for instrumental compositions.

Best Rappers Alive UPDATED (2011) (Top 10)

Author: Walk to the Success ,

As the world of hip hop turns more and more into the mainstream music and has become, in my opinion, "pop music", real Hip-Hop has gone underground. Therefore, I want to share with you who I think are the best rappers alive at the moment, February 4th, 2011.

Even though I am going to talk about my Top 10 + 1 favorite rappers, there will not a particular order as I can't make one.

The first hip hop artist that, in my opinion, is one of the greatest ever, is Method Man, also called Meth or Tical. With classic albums such as 'Tical' (1994), 'Tical 2000: Judgment Day' (1998), 'Tical 0: The Prequel' (2004) and '4:21... The Day After' (2006), Meth gained the respect he deserved and has become a legendary East Coast icon. He has also won a Grammy award for the 'Best Rap Performance by a Duo or a Group' for the song 'You're All That I Need To Get By', featuring Mary J. Blige. Last but not least, he is very well known as being part of the East Coast hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan, one, if not the best, hip hop group ever. Tical is set to release his next album in March, 2011, entitled 'The Crystal Meth'.

Jumping from the East Coast straight to the West Coast, the next hip hop artist that made it into my 'Best Rappers Alive' list is Ice Cube. He started as a member of the West Coast hip hop group, N.W.A. Even though the group released only 2 albums, they have been very successful as they are considered one, if not the first 'gangsta rappers' in the hip-hop world. He has released 9 albums so far, most of them achieving platinum statuses. His most successful album from both a commercial point of view (double platinum status) and a lyrical point of view is 'The Predator', released on November 17th, 1992.

Time to take a trip to the 'Dirty South' and have a look at the 3rd MC that has made it into my list - Andre 3000. Even though he has yet to release a solo album, Andre 3000 is one of the best rappers to ever step foot on this Earth. Period. He is a lyrical genius. His work consists of 7 albums released as a member of the hip hop duo 'OutKast', from which 1 is a 'Greatest Hits' album. Their most successful album is actually a double album, entitled 'Speakerboxxx/The Love Below'. This has been both commercially successful (11x platinum in the U.S.) and very well received by the fans and critics. The album has been nominated for 6 Grammy Awards, winning 3 of them, from which the 'Best Album of The Year' Award.

Dr. Dre, one of the best music producers of all times, has had a long and diversified music career. Starting as a member of the electro-pop group 'World Class Wreckin' Cru', moving to the gangsta-rap group 'N.W.A.' to eventually release his own successful solo albums, Dr. Dre is now one of the pioneers of hip hop and truly deserves to be in the 'Best Rappers Alive' list. His highly anticipated 3rd and final studio album, 'Detox' is set for a release on April 1st, 2011. At first, I wasn't thinking about having Dre in my list but after I thought about what he did for the rap game on overall, I decided to add him on the list, so that's why this is a Top 10 + 1.

Eminem, discovered by Dr.Dre, has had a huge impact on the world of hip hop. With 7 albums released so far and 80 million copies sold worldwide, he is one of the best-selling artists in the world. If I was to make this list and only take into consideration his last 2 albums, Relapse and Recovery, I wouldn't probably had him in it because I personally don't like any of his last 2 albums as he adopted a more 'mainstream' approach and the songs are very different from the songs on his first albums, and not in a good way. But on overall, taking into consideration his first 5 studio albums, Eminem is one of the best rappers alive, with strong lyrics and very special flow and delivery.

50 Cent is one of my favorite rappers of all times but that wasn't the reason for which I added him in the list. He has released 5 albums so far, from which his debut album, 'Get Rich or Die Tryin'' achieved a diamond status (more than 10 million copies sold in the U.S alone) and sold a total of 50 million copies worldwide. He is one of the few gangsta-rappers left in the 'game' nowadays and the one that goes the hardest right now. His strong and explicit lyrics describing the harsh realities in the neighborhood he grew up in combined with an amazing flow and delivery got him a place on my list.

Back on the West Coast, Xzibit is, in my opinion, the most underrated hip hop artist ever. With 6 great content albums released, a true lyricist, X-to-the-Z is intent on proving his skilled penmanship at any given opportunity. His next album is going to be released in 2011.

The Last West Coast artist on my list is Snoop Dogg. He is one of the most consistent rappers in history, having released 10 albums on a period of 16 years. His style goes into the gangsta-rap category and with a great freestyle ability and flow, he is one of the best rappers alive, no doubt about it.

I am going to finish by presenting the final 3 rappers that have made it into my list. They are all East Coast artists, more precisely from New York, and each of them has a distinctive style.

DMX is the most aggressive rapper ever in my opinion. He is constantly delivering heavy punch lines with a 'destructive' flow. He has sold 20 million copies alone in the U.S. and his career spans 13 years. He is going to release 2 albums in 2011, 'Walk With Me Now' and 'You'll Fly With Me Later'. First one is going to be released in the first half of 2011, while the 2nd one is set to be released in the other half of 2011.

Next is Busta Rhymes. He is one of the fastest rappers of all times and he doesn't only 'spit' fast but the lyrics are so good that it makes you wanna 'Break Ya Neck'. He has released 8 albums since he started rapping in 1996, most of them being certified with platinum status by the RIAA.

Last but not least, another New York native - Jay-Z. Even though he has gone on a mainstream way in last couple of years (not as much as Eminem though), he is one of east coast hip hop icons, and one of the best rappers alive. He has released 11 albums in 15 years, most of them being certified with platinum and multi-platinum status by the RIAA. High level of delivery combined with very well thought lyrics helped him become one of the most relevant hip hop figures nowadays.

I hope you enjoyed reading this article and have a good day.

Recently I got in touch with some friends and new indie music anoraks that were able to tell us a bit from the 'inside' - so here are the new indie pop music names that are expected to have a huge impact on our ears this year, organised into three neat little categories for your reading pleasure.

New Indie Music with a Touch of Electro

You will have heard teasers of this genre, set for explosion, within the more classic indie and pop songs of 2009. If you liked it, get to know names like:

Free Energy - inspired by late 1970s-early 1980s classic rock, they'll give you the type of song you'd go on a road trip to. Think AC/DC, and Thin Lizzy
Two Door Cinema Club - a young new indie pop music trio who've toured with well known names like The Wombats
French Horn Rebellion - a great new electro-pop threesome featuring two brothers from Milwaukee, who've managed everything from recording to releasing themselves
Wild Beasts - they've been compared to the brilliant Maccabees and already raved about for their crazy and playful sounds, plus they're amazing live.
Delphic - from Manchester in the UK, these guys have already had numerous appearances in top festivals and on TV. And they deserve it - creating sounds you can play over and over again, Delphic really stand out amongst the genre.

Indie Music Pop Folk - A New Genre

Again, more 'traditional' folk styles were even creeping into mainstream music in 2009, but is set to feature heavily throughout new indie music pop and some rock in 2010 and beyond. Hurry up and and get listening to these people for great new indie pop music with folky undertones:

Owen Pallett - previously going by the name Final Fantasy, Owen Pallett is a composer, a violinist, a singer, and an all-round great artist when it comes to fusing folk music with new indie pop music sounds
Dan Mangan - Itunes named this guy "Best New Artist" in 2009, and now Vancouver's newest and favourite indie folk-rock artist is going global - we can't get enough of his music.
Vandaveer - Check out the song Marianne, You've Done It Now. A great song on a great album, inspired by Dylan (who you'll probably agree is one of the unofficial founders of new indie music!)
Twilight Hotel - a Canadian duo producing exciting and varied new indie pop music within their genre. From the slower songs to the more fast paced vibrant tracks, don't miss their stuff.
Lindsey Thompson - more of a gentle sound, Lindsey's clear vocals blend perfectly with soft melodies, and her lyrics complement her style perfectly.

New Indie Pop Rock and Punk

If the slower paces of new indie pop music don't appeal, or your love for indie music stems from straight up punk rock, metal, and rock and roll, make sure you keep an eye on these bands: Screaming Females - although there's actually only one Female in the band, these guys can deliver a brilliant performance consisting of passionate wailing and Jimi Hendrix inspired guitar playing

Dinosaur Feathers - you'll definitely find something unique and lovable in new indie music if you listen to Dinosaur feathers, a trio who simply love experimenting with sound.
Evan Voytas - a young singer/songwriter from Pennsylvania, this multi-instrumental solo artist has perfected out an EP of rich and classic songs.
Internet Forever - female lead new indie music with slight rock undertones, this trio is probably the 'gentlest' option of the list - check out their single 'Cover The Walls'.

So Who Is The Favourite?
